At the Downtown Raleigh Home Show, we really want to know what our guests want to see more of when they visit us. One thing that consistently comes up at the top of the list? Interior design tips. Specifically, how to make a home look like a million bucks without actually breaking the bank. Enter Michael Strauss, and his team at The Design Haüs. This full-serve design company creates exquisite interiors and provides personal interior design service for their clients. We asked Michael to share some his top tips ahead of the show:
His mantra: Do it once, do it right!
By making an investment in quality furniture for your home you will be able to enjoy these pieces for a lifetime. Often times we see clients making purchase of interior quality furniture only to have to replace it within a few short years because the fabric, cushions and frame didn’t wear well. It’s always more costly upfront but to have the peace of mind that these pieces will last is priceless.
His trend pick: performance fabrics.
Fabrics that are classified as “performance fabrics” are always more durable and suited for easy lifestyle-friendly living. “These fabrics are stain, mold and odor-resistant. They have stain blocking technology either woven into the textire fibers or applied topically. Since most homes are being designed around an open floorplan homes today are often foregoing a formal living space. Homewoners are wanting a more laid-back casual style of living these fabrics can offer. They are a great choice for busy families and pet lovers alike.
His best advice: work with a design professional.
“We’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Take advantage of our design services. At The Design Haüs, we offer complimentary interior design services to take the guess work out of our furniture purchasing needs. By working with a design professional you can save big in the end by not making costly mistakes along the way.
His small space tips: everything has to multitask.
Just because you don’t have a sprawling mansion to call home doesn’t mean your home can’t be beautiful and functional. An ottoman can also be used for storage while providing additional seating. Another tip is to use furniture with clean lines it will create the illusion of more space.
His bottom line: be realistic on budget.
“You have to be realistic about your budget and the expectation of quality. We’ve all heard the expression “you get what you pay for” and in this case it’s absolutely true!”
